CLASSROOM MISSION STATEMENT

Classroom mission statements are specific to the learning environment in which the students are working.  They are discussed and written with the children.  Everyone involved comes to consensus as to what should be included.  Since the focus is on learning, the statement identifies a goal. It states specifically what the teacher and the students have to do to accomplish the goal.
The mission statement that was drafted by my class explained the purpose of being in school and what the members of our classroom community had to do to achieve our goal of learning.  After everyone agreed on the language that was written, it was signed by all the students and myself.  It is posted in the room and reviewed regularly as a visual reminder of what was agreed upon by all of us.
